Poomukham coming up

Poomukham for this special design house is now coming up with Chuttu veranda, another traditional feature of Kerala Architecture.

Pictures show work in progress.Several new features are being added to this less than 3000 sft four bed room attached house with double height living room with view from first floor and added facility of a Home theatre which can also act as family living

Work started on slope roof above living room keeping the roof at about17 feet above ground level.Pictures show view from front side and view from north side

Poomukham front view

Picture shows front view of poomukham after fixing decorative thoomanam(drop slab) which will act as divertor of rain water preventing rain water flowing down with more speed through slope roof,to flow inside slope roof thereby water reaching inside of the slope roof.

Other alternative for this decorative thoomanam or drop slab is to provide plane drop slab to be concreted with steel,cement and mortar.This will be costly and will not have decorative design as seen in the picture.With painting and finishing this decorative drop slab will look better and more appealing

Curing of slope roof concrete

Pictures shows curing being done on slope roof for poomukham and verandah with  wet jute bags.These jute bags will be made wet by water pumped frequently

Flat roof slab for car porch and above toilet area were concreted first as they are at a lower level from the Ground Floor roof slab.Later rest of the Ground Floor roof concreted.Pictures shows view from South front side and concreted portions.After concreting water is retained at concreted surface for curing

Round columns for Chuttu verandah

Round columns for Chuttu verandah,Poomukham and for car porch are being raised.Car porch will be concreted first along with sunken slabs above toilet areas of two bed rooms in Ground Floor.After this main flat roof for Ground floor will be concreted
